What Is Child Support?

Transcript

Allison Williams: Child support is money paid from the non-custodial parent to the custodial parent in order to ensure the child has its basic needs met. The standard for child support is to accomplish for the child a lifestyle that is reasonably comparable to the lifestyle of both the parents during the time when the parents resided together. The court calculates child support by running the New Jersey Child Support Guidelines. In very high-income situations, child support is calculated based upon a number of salutatory factors, but there is a presumption in favor of using the child support guidelines. If you have a question about how child support will be calculated in your case, you should consult an attorney about your circumstances.
